We’ll kick off with BALLAST POINT BREWING CO. , the San Diego beer-maker that’s become incredibly popular around KC, will be bringing these four beers for you to sample:

GRUNION PALE ALE – award-winning hoppy pale ale with strong yet balanced summer melon aromas and herbal flavors, and a soft caramel malt sweetness to hold it all together. Earns its well-deserved 98 score on RateBeer.

SCULPIN – this gold-medal winning IPA is hopped at five separate stages to create hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors,  and still pack the punch of a full-flavored IPA.

CALIFORNIA AMBER – another gold-medal winner, this takes its inspiration from traditional English ESBs. Four types of malts give it a bold complexity, and their proprietary yeast strain lends it a fruity, madeira-like richness.

CALM BEFORE THE STORM – infuses a punch of flavor using cold brewed Caffé Calabria coffee and a hint of vanilla, added into a lighter-bodied golden cream ale.

Union-Horse-whiskeyFor the whiskey, UNION HORSE DISTILLERY (formerly DARK HORSE) will be bringing these excellent entries for you to sample:

STRAIGHT BOURBON WHISKEY – this smooth 92 proof spirit is distilled from a sour mash recipe in their copper pot stills, giving it tender notes of creamy vanilla, maple and smoke.
RYE WHISKEY  – 95 proof small batch 100% rye whiskey handcrafted in copper pot stills that give it smooth complex notes of butterscotch, caramel, ginger and cinnamon spice.

If you haven’t tried these, don’t miss this opportunity! The distillery has won 36 spirits awards medals, including 11 gold medals, since 2012. In addition to the name change, the company is also now using 5-year barrel-aged stock that makes their whiskeys even smoother than before.
