Join us this last week of the year as we celebrate with tastings on Thursday & Friday evenings and on Saturday afternoon. We’ll start off on Thursday with a line-up of sparkling wines that our wonderful rep from Pinnacle will be bringing for you to try:
LeMESNIL BLANC DE BLANC GRAND CRU – Winner of the Silver medal at the 2017 International Wine Challenge Wine Awards, this sparkling French wine offers intensity, minerality and a depth of flavour which marks it as exceptional with citrus, fresh brioche, mushroom, lemon pith, chalky elements, lightly grilled nuts and brilliant freshness and life.
MARQUES DE GELIDA BRUT GRAN RESERVE – earning a score of 90 points from Robert Parker, this Spanish sparkling wine spends 3.5 years in the bottle before release so it offers crisp acidity with apple and plenty of yeast flavors that finishes with a citrus acidity and a flavor of butterscotch.
LANGLOIS CHATEAU CREMANT DE LOIRE ROSE – this sparkling French wine is made from 100% Cabernet Franc. Light and refreshingly crisp, it offers flavors of red fruits with cherry sweets: cranberry, strawberry, cherry and a nice, rich finish.
SCHRAMSBERG BLANC DE BLANC – earning a score of 92 points from Robert Parker, this sparkling wine offers generous flavors of grapefruit, lime and pineapple with a finish that’s long, tangy and has refreshing acidity.
On Friday evening, we’ll start off the tastings with beers from ODELL BREWING who’ll be bringing these selections for you to try:
DRUMROLL APA – earning a 93 score from RateBeer, this is a bold, juicy, citrus-inspired and tropically hop forward APA that looks and tastes like pineapple, orange, mango, and grapefruit.
FRIEK – earning a 99 score on RateBeer, this delicious Lambic-style kriek is brewed with Colorado cherries, aged and soured in oak barrels and then blended. Fresh raspberries are added to the brew just prior to the blend.
PINA AGRIA – earning a 96 score from RateBeer, this sour beer has a subtle sweet malt and pineapple backdrop that bursts with an exotic sparkling tart finish of refreshing fruit and melon.
90 SHILLING ALE – a Scottish ale with a sweet malty background tempered by a light flavor of hops on the finish.
For the liquors, we’ll be tasting: our hand-picked JEFFERSON’S BOURBON and JEFFERSON’S RESERVE BOURBON. When you buy any bourbon, what you get is a mix of different barrels — some peppery, some bitey, some smooth, all mixed together.
When we buy Jefferson’s though, their rep brings us 10 samples from different barrels and we choose the smoothest one. What you get is Jefferson’s Bourbon and Jefferson’s reserve that are much smoother for the dollar than what you’ll get when you buy it off the shelf anywhere else. Don’t believe it? Come try our Jefferson’s with the Plaza Liquor label on them and compare for yourself.
And for the wines, our excellent rep from Lile Wine will be bringing these for you to sample:
NEVERLAND CABERNET SAUVIGNON – this claret can only be described as “plush”, both in aromatics and in mouthfeel, with blueberry, violets, kirsch and creme de cassis joining notes of tobacco and cola. It’s an outstanding blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, and 5% Merlot
AZIMUT CAVA – this delicious Spanish sparkling wine offers a lightly dry profile of green apples, a light minerality and hints of red berry fruits that make it soft and elegantly refreshing.
PRISMA PINOT NOIR – this light, easy-drinking Chilean wine offers bright red fruit notes of strawberry and cherry, with an underlying hint of oak, that leads to a lifted mid-palate and smooth, velvety finish.
MDZ MALBEC – a top value wine, this offers flavors of black berry, boysenberry and black raspberry fruits with dusty cocoa powder and earthy notes of lingering spice and smooth tannins.
For our SATURDAY AFTERNOON TASTING BETWEEN 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, our knowledgeable rep from Vintegrity will be bringing these sparkling wines for you to taste:
CHARLES BOVE BRUT ROSE – Charles Bove Winery is located in the Loire Valley in central France, with their sparkling wines being fermented underground beneath the main Bove chateau. The Bove Touraine Rose is made mostly from Cabernet Franc and Gamay grapes. Dry, light, easy-drinking and finishes with a touch of red fruit sweetness.
CHARLES BOVE BRUT – 100% Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley, this dry sparkling wine is full and frothy upfront, with almond, fig and pear flavors.
SCARPETTA PROSECCO – Pliant lemon, ripe melon and green apple flavors are lifted by zingy acid. The palate extends nicely with a drier than expected finish.
