Join us again on Friday evening as we open up February with a “something for everyone” line-up of adult beverages for you to try. We’ll start off the tasting with a selection of beers from NEW BELGIUM BREWING CO. that includes:
JUICY HAZE IPA – another IPA from their Voodoo Ranger line, made with Citra, Cascade, Centennial, Simcoe & Nugget hops, this pours a deep orange color with an opaque hazy look to it that mixes flavors of citrus fruit with a little tropical guava and pineapple to give it a smoothly bitter finish.
TARTASTIC – an ale made with ginger and lemon that starts off sour before turning moderately sweet; finishing with very light bitterness along moderate and equal intensities of sour and sweet.
FAT TIRE WHITE – this Belgian Style Ale is made with Seville oranges and Indian coriander, both freshly ground less than a mile from our Fort Collins brewery. It’s a fresh, perfectly sweet, natural tasting Belgian White.
For the liquor, we’ll be sampling both the blanco and the reposado EL MAYOR TEQUILAS. Like all premium tequilas they are made from 100% Blue Agave with theirs being grown in the Jalisco Highlands:
THE BLANCO – noticeably sweeter than most other Blancos on the market, very smooth, creamy, and lightly spicy. Think nutmeg and allspice hints, and a touch of floral, too. The tequila bite is there, but it’s mild. The body has some citrus notes, cloves, and a modest agave, which together with the citrus character gives it a bit of the flavor of pickled jalapeno on the finish.
THE REPOSADO – Aged up to nine months. Again, very gentle on the nose, though this time it’s got notes of cola, some vanilla, and emerging agave spice. The body features some cinnamon and gingerbread, more vanilla custard, and even butterscotch notes. Herbal agave notes are present, but fleeting, as the sweeter components do more of the heavy lifting. Some pepper on the finish.
And for the wines, our fantastic rep from Major Brands will be bringing these to tempt your tastebuds:
PIEDRA NEGRA ROSE – this Argentinian rose is made from 100% Pinot Gris grapes, giving it a silky, tangy, dryish light-to-medium body and a polished, appealing, breezy citrus and minerals finish with fine, fruit tannins and no oak.
JUSTIN CABERNET – Dry, moderate plus bodied, with ripe red and black cherry, and blackcurrant fruit joined by vanilla and cinnamon spice notes on the entry. The mid-palate is fresh with sustained ripe fruit, toasty oak notes and softly textured tannins. The finish is moderately long with notes of cherry candy and blackcurrant fruit matched with subtle classic Cabernet savory elements.
MER SOLEIL RESERVE CHARDONNAY – this medium to full-bodied wine offers a mix of oak, butter and fully ripe white peach balanced by a vibrant acidity that finishes with endearing creaminess, firm structure and pure fruit in the aftertaste.
D’ARENBERG STUMP JUMP – earning a score 0f 89 points from both Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast, this Grenache-Syrah-Mouvedre red blend is a plump yet firm wine that combines black cherry fruit, juicy plum and spice flavors with savory notes of chocolate along with a refined and velvety finish.
EMMOLO SAUVIGNON BLANC – subtle and balanced, with minerality and bright natural acidity, it offers a crisp lightness of citrus with underlying notes of fleshy grapefruit and lime zest along with a wet stone mineral flavor on the finish.
