Join us this Friday as we celebrate the start of the school year by offering up some delicious wines and tequilas for you to sample, as well as welcoming hometown beer favorite BOULEVARD BREWING who’ll be bringing these great Summer sippers for you to taste:
Tropical Pale Ale – their well-balanced pale ale with the bright refreshing flavors of grapefruit and passion fruit accented by juicy, citrusy hops.
Ginger Lemon Radler – a zesty, refreshing take on the tradition of mixing beer with soda or lemonade to create a light, thirst-quenching beverage ideal for warm weather.
Frequent Flier Session IPA – an easy IPA, with an extremely drinkable character and relatively low bitterness tucked behind big, fruity hop aromas and flavor.
Heavy Lifting IPA – a big, bold hop presence in fine style, exploding with flavor and a huge helping of five remarkably zesty and piney hops (Centennial, Citra, Amarillo, Topaz and Cascade).
And for the liquor portion of our tasting, we’ll be welcoming OLMECA ALTOS TEQUILAS, produced in Los Altos of Jalisco, 2104 metres above sea level, and created, in part, using the traditional Tahona production process (50% tahona-crushed agave, and 50% roller mill), before being distilled in small copper pot stills.
During the 2014 Tequila Challenge blind tasting events, Olmeca Altos Plata received the overall highest scores in San Francisco. In Seattle, Olmeca Altos Reposado was the second highest scoring tequila out of six, and every other tequila in consideration was at least double the price. We’ll be sampling both their:
Plata (faint aroma of tobacco and slight musty leaves, with a very delicious sweet finish) and their Reposado ( loaded with sweet delicious caramelized baked agave, and the finish delivers a long and pleasant creamy vanilla treat). Give them both a try as it’s surprising they can create a level of fine tequila at their modest prices.
For the wines. our wonderful rep from Major Brands will be bringing these four for you to try:
Infamous Goose Sauvignon Blanc – an elegant version of Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand that is lively, juicy and smooth with typical lime and grapefruit notes and a mineral backbone.
Tangley Oaks Merlot – offers aromas of rich plums, dark cherries, chocolate and savory herbs. On the palate, lush plums and cherry fruit with undertones of mocha.
Poema Brut Rose Cava – this sparkling wine from Spain shows aromas and flavors typical of Trepat (a grape from Northeaster Spain), with fresh and elegant notes of strawberry, raspberry and rose petals. Balanced acidity keeps the wine light and fresh.
Evodia Garnacha Altovinum – with a score of 90 from Robert Parker, this is really an amazing wine for the price. Deep ruby/plum purple, with loads of blueberry and black currant fruit, underlying crushed rock notes and some floral scents are all present in this remarkable wine.
