FREE EVENT

Join us this Friday evening as we feature a fantastic selection of adult beverages to get you through the end of Summer. We’ll be kicking off the proceedings with hometown favorite BOULEVARD BREWING as they bring some old and new favorites for you to try:

BOB’S 47 – a favorite that sells out early every year,  their fall seasonal beer Oktoberfest is a medium-bodied, dark amber brew with a malty flavor and well-balanced hop character.

AMERICAN KOLSCH – featuring a base composed of European pilsner malt, pale malt and a touch of malted wheat showcasing herbal, citrusy notes from Saaz and Saphir hops,  this light and refreshing beer delivers a honey-like malt sweetness that gives way to a crisp, clean finish with a touch of lingering herbal/citrusy flavor.

TOUGH KITTY – a Milk Stout that features layers of caramel and chocolate malt with lactose  milk sugar to lend it a round, silky texture along with some subtle Bravo and Cascade hopping that creates just enough bitterness to prevent the beer from being overly cloying.

BERLINER WEISSE – a fairly traditional German-style tart wheat beer that features subtle bittering with Topaz hops and additions of orange, lemon and lime peel at the end of the boil to punctuate a soft lactic acidity with bright, citrus notes.

rieger whiskey awardFor the liquors, we’ll be hosting our historic local distillery J. RIEGER & CO. who re-opened in 2010 and rapidly became a favorite with these fine products we’ll be tasting:

KANSAS CITY WHISKEY – bottled at 92 Proof from a corn & malt light whiskey and a straight rye, both aged for a minimum of 7 years.  To this is added  15 year old Oloroso sherry (not exceeding 2.5% of the volume) from the Williams & Humbert Bodega in Jerez, Spain that makes the whiskey balanced, smooth and slightly sweet.

MIDWESTERN PREMIUM VODKA – distilled in a copper pot, they utilize a blend of potato, wheat and corn to give it a clean, unique and full-flavored taste.

MIDWESTERN DRY GIN – inspired by traditional London Gins that emphasize the character of mature Juniper berries, the result is a bold Gin layered with complex botanical flavors that makes it perfect for sipping or mixing.

CAFFE AMARO – their newest creation, made in collaboration with KC coffee roasters Thou Mayest, they select a single origin coffee roast that’s combined with orange, cardamom, vanilla and gentian. Then barrel-aged, the result is a rich, bittersweet flavor that works great in cocktails or as a digestive.

catena-chardonnayAnd for the wines, our wonderful rep from A. Bommarito will be bringing these for you to taste:

STOLPMAN ROSE – made from 100% Grenache grapes and offering an alluring freshness in flavor, pure fresh strawberry and watermelon give way on the tongue to a touch of stone and earth to give it a nice hint of flint on the finish.

NAIA VERDEJO – earning an 89 point score from Wine Enthusiast, minerally, slightly dusty apple aromas lead into a well-balanced palate with body and zesty acidity. Peach, green melon and white-pepper flavors fade out on a pulpy finish with good acidic cut.

TILIA MALBEC – earning a 90 point score from Robert Parker, this wine is rich and full-bodied with flavors of juicy blackberries, cranberries, and black currants abound, followed by notes of vanilla and sweet spice.

CATENA CHARDONNAY – this wine combines the unique expressions of three high altitude vineyard sites to offer honey and tropical fruit flavors while lending notes of citrus, pears, peaches, and white flowers with a strong minerality and a delicated note of vanilla with fresh, clean acidity on the finish.

RICKSHAW PINOT NOIR – this Pinot flashes a whole range of berry flavors from wild blackberry to blueberry to Rainier cherry. This blend of fruit rides atop notes of wet earth, black tea and warm Indian spice notes. The finish is bright and long lasting.
