Join us this last Friday evening in February for a tasting featuring some old favorites, some slightly new favorites and some new sure-to-be favorites. We’ll tip off the evening with some old and new from our great hometown Kansas City beer maker CRANE BREWING CO. (who just began selling 6-packs of their beers):
TRAILSMITH – a farmhouse saison that offers flavors of sweet wheat grains, a little bit of clove-tasting yeast. light malt and a soft earthiness that gives it an easy full-bodied drinkability.
FARMHOUSE IPA – a combination of juicy hops and Belgian yeast that have added Brettanomyces at the point of bottling to provide an extra layer of complexity and funk. “Brett” is a formally wild yeast that offers earthy and tangy flavors
OMAR – a traditional english porter with delicious roasted malts flavors that compliment the notes of bitter chocolate, licorice, and hints of caramel sweetness.
TEA WEISS – combines Kansas City’s own Hugo Berry Rooibos Tea with a spritzy, sour wheat beer to an exceedingly refreshing effect that offers the full flavor of the fruited tea.
BERRY WEISS – their latest Berliner Weiss, includes both Blackberries and Raspberries in their sour wheat beer. A light, totally tart, fruit bomb
For the liquors, our rep from Smart Dist. will be bringing in these delicious treats from INFUSE SPIRITS:
BROKEN BARREL BOURBON – this Kentucky-distilled bourbon features a unique blend of Corn, Rye, and Barely, perfectly balanced for a smoothness ages with new French Oak staves, new American Oak staves and a Sherry cask.
CINNAMON APPLE VODKA – a whiskey-brown spirit with numerous apple slices floating at the top of the bottle. The nose is pure apple, with touches of cinnamon, just like grandma used to bake. Smooth as silk on the body — the vodka is really only evident on the finish, as the sweet, dessert-like character of the product takes center stage. “Double Gold & Best-In-Show ‘Flavored’ Vodka at the 2014 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
PEACH VODKA – no fake peach flavoring here: instead you’ll find a familiar, pleasantly sweet, true-peach scent. Made from a corn base, the bright tawny liquid is reminiscent of peach-flavored Bourbon: it has a boozy presence, and a long finish that hints at vanilla and bruised peaches.
LEMON VODKA – this gold-medal winning infusion at the New York International Spirits feels silky and viscous on the tongue, and evokes waxy lemon peel flavors. Thin ribbons of lemon peel visible inside the bottle speak to this brand’s natural-infusion ethos.
And for the wines, our sterling rep from Appellations will be bringing these fine wines for you to try:
LAMBERT DE SEYSSEL “PETIT ROYAL” – from the village of Seyssel in the French Alps, this delicious sparkling wine is made from the grapes Molette and Altesse (which dates back to at least 1363 in this area). Offering delightful flavors of alpine flowers, dried fruit, wildflower honey, and a toasty, yeasty note that gives this sparkler an aromatic richness and complexity.
DOMAINE DE LA PREBENDE BEAUJOLAIS – this delicious manually-harvested French wine is made from old vine Gamay grapes that blend a profound minerality with bright cherry and banana flavors. Fresh and fruity, it possesses a light structure along with a smooth acidity that provide a finishing crispness.
MATTHEW FRITZ SAUVIGNON BLANC – The richly textured wine from Napa Valley shows off flavors of spicy Anjou pear, melon and pink grapefruit with a grassy minerality and a hint of white pepper on the finish. A lively wine balanced by a refreshing acidity.
MATSU “EL PICARO” – this medium-bodied old vine Tempranillo from Spain delivers dry spice and earthy notes initially, followed by fresh raspberry and red currant mixed with smooth and complex tannins, followed by lingering blackberry notes and spice on the finish.
