Friday, July 29th
Join us this Friday as we enjoy a Summer tasting fiesta of hoppy beers, smooth tequila and refreshing local wines. To kick off, we’ll be sampling beers from one of our favorites, LAGUNITAS BREWING CO. out of California who’ll be bringing these three:
IPA – With a score of 92 on RateBeer. this well-rounded, highly drinkable IPA has a bit of Caramel Malt barley that provides a richness which mellows out the twang of the hops.
AUNT SALLY – With a score of 94 on RateBeer, this is a smooth-drinking and unique dry-hopped, sweet. tart, sour mash ale unlike any other beer.
PILS – Their only Lager, brewed with loads of imported Saaz hops and a bottom-fermenting yeast strain that leaves it Light and Crisp and Easy to Slam, yet full of real flavor
For the liquor, we’ll be sampling both the blanco and the reposado EL MAYOR TEQUILAS. Like all premium tequilas they are made from 100% Blue Agave with theirs being grown in the Jalisco Highlands:
THE BLANCO – noticeably sweeter than most other Blancos on the market, very smooth, creamy, and lightly spicy. Think nutmeg and allspice hints, and a touch of floral, too. The tequila bite is there, but it’s mild. The body has some citrus notes, cloves, and a modest agave, which together with the citrus character gives it a bit of the flavor of pickled jalapeno on the finish.
THE REPOSADO – Aged up to nine months. Again, very gentle on the nose, though this time it’s got notes of cola, some vanilla, and emerging agave spice. The body features some cinnamon and gingerbread, more vanilla custard, and even butterscotch notes. Herbal agave notes are present, but fleeting, as the sweeter components do more of the heavy lifting. Some pepper on the finish.
For the wines, we’ll be hosting the Overland Park, KS based AUBREY WINES who are bringing three of their Summer faves:
APPLE WINE – Freshly pressed, local apple juice was slowly fermented at low temperatures in order to retain clean and crisp aromas and flavors of pure, fresh apples.
VIDAL BLANC – fermented cold in order to capture all of its enticing aromas. Floral and fruity aromas are complimented by bright, long lingering citrus flavors. This semi-dry wine has just enough sweetness to perfectly balance its crisp and refreshing acidity.
CHAMBOURCIN – This elegant dry red wine exhibits complex spicy, smoky and earthy aromas and flavors complimented by layers of black cherry and wild berries. Its silky, velvety texture and light to medium body resemble the finest burgundies.
