Join us this Friday as we celebrate the end of Summer with a strong line-up of adult beverages for you to sample to get you ready for the Fall season. Let’s start off with the offerings from our historic local distillery J. RIEGER & CO. who re-opened in 2010 and rapidly became a favorite with these fine products we’ll be tasting:

Kansas City Whiskey – bottled at 92 Proof from a corn & malt light whiskey and a straight rye, both aged for a minimum of 7 years.  To this is added  15 year old Oloroso sherry (not exceeding 2.5% of the volume) from the Williams & Humbert Bodega in Jerez, Spain that makes the whiskey balanced, smooth and slightly sweet.

Midwestern Premium Vodka – distilled in a copper pot, they utilize a blend of potato, wheat and corn to give it a clean, unique and full-flavored taste.

piccolo-cruMidwestern Dry Gin – inspired by traditional London Gins that emphasize the character of mature Juniper berries, the result is a bold Gin layered with complex botanical flavors that makes it perfect for sipping or mixing.

Caffe Amaro – their newest creation, made in collaboration with KC coffee roasters Thou Mayest, they select a single origin coffee roast that’s combined with orange, cardamom, vanilla and gentian. Then barrel-aged, the result is a rich, bittersweet flavor that works great in cocktails or as a digestivo.

For the wines, our great rep from A. Bommarito will be bringing these for you to sample:

Paoletti Vineyards’ Piccolo Cru – a Red Blend  that’s refined, complex and elegant. Well integrated with black cherry, warm spice, smokey oak and supple tannins.  It’s 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec, 18% Merlot, 8% Petite Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc.

Gruet Brut – With an 89 rating from Wine Spectator, the richly-styled Brut from this winery in New Mexico delivers a crisp and toasty flavor with spicy tropical fruit aromas and appealing baked apple, cinnamon and herb notes.

Gerard Bertrand Pinot Noir – Bertrand’s Reserve Speciale 100% Pinot Noir from the South of France is a fruity wine offering notes of ripe cherry, wild raspberry and spices, as well as silky tannins and an elegant, balanced finish.

Foris Pinot Gris – with a score of 89 points from Wine Spectator, this Oregonian wine finished in stainless steel tanks is tangy and mouthwatering, smooth and rich with a lingering minerality and “an appealing vitality to the green melon, ripe pear and delicately floral flavors, lingering on the focused finish.”

torn-label-glassAnd for the beers we’ll be hosting the fantastic local TORN LABEL BREWING CO. from the Crossroads Arts District who’ll be bringing a couple beers (one of which is a great treat) for you to taste:

Hang ‘Em High, Batch #8 – their flagship IPA that they change up a little from batch to batch. #8 was bottled just this Tuesday so it’s as fresh an IPA as you’ll ever get. This IPA batch is wet-hopped with Columbus hops straight from the Kansas Hop Company!

KC P’Rye’D – An amber Rye beer with Simcoe dry-hopping that has a touch of caramel maltiness and a touch of spice to its flavor.
