Sierra-Nevada-Oktoberfest-2016-bottleFriday, September 9th

FREE EVENT

Join us this Friday as we kick off the football season with a great selection of adult beverages for you to sample that you can enjoy on your own while watching the games playing this weekend (y’know, like the KC Chiefs season opener at home). Let’s start with the beers from California (and now North Carolina as well) brewer SIERRA NEVADA. They’ll be bringing these three for you to try:

OKTOBERFEST – collaborating with Bamberg, Germany’s Mahrs Bräu on a new version of the classic style, this authentic version of the festival beer is deep golden in color with a rich malt complexity, but with a noticeable spicy hop character from the use of the nearly forgotten Record hop varietal.

KELLERWEIS –  brew in open fermentation tanks—a process rarely seen today– the result is a hazy wheat ale with a full, fruity aroma and notes of spicy clove and banana bread.

PALE ALE – Its unique piney and grapefruit aromas from the use of whole-cone American hops have made this beer a classic, all natural, bottle conditioned and refreshingly bold.

For the liquor, we’ll be tasting all the spirits available from our local TOM’S TOWN DISTILLERY (located over on Main St.). This a great opportunity for you to sample these premium liquors:

Pendergast’s Royal Gold Bourbon – this 90 Proof Bourbon offers a rich warmth with a smooth and well-balanced flavor, finished in hand-selected 14-year-old port casks.

McElroy’s Corruption Gin – this 90 Proof favorite  is a complex, spicy and botanical New Western style gin.

Eli’s StrongArm Vodka – one of the best out there, this is a pure, smooth and imposing vodka, distilled 16 times.

And for the wines, from 5-7 PM we’ll be hosting Simon Back of BACKSBERG ESTATE WINERY in S. Africa who’ll be bringing these fine wine selections of theirs for you to taste:

backsberg-logoBacksberg Estate Cabernet Sauvignon – Spicy aromas of licorice and vanilla overlay rich blackcurrant fruit. Careful oaking provides the necessary structure for the acids in this full-bodied flavor to stay smooth and supple on the palate.

Tread Lightly Sauvignon Blanc – from the mountainous region of South Africa, this wine bursts with aromas of gooseberry and passion fruit. Lime and grassy nettle characters dominate the palate, cleverly matching fruit sweetness with natural acidity.

Tread Lightly Rose – cool tank fermented and bottled early to retain freshness, this mildly sweet wine is carries the fruity flavor of Grenache grapes. Great for the pool as this and the Tread Lightly Sauvignon Blanc are available in 1 liter plastic bottles.
