Join us this Friday for our Mother’s Day weekend tasting with one of our favorite beer companies, some great local liquors, and four delicious wines. To kick off, we’ll be sampling beers from LAGUNITAS BREWING CO. out of California who’ll be bringing these beers for you to taste:

LUCKY 13 – earning a 98 score on RateBeer, this Imperial Red Ale has a beautiful balance of rich amber maltiness perfectly complementing massive piney hop aroma and flavor.

MAXIMUS – earning a 97 score on RateBeer, this Imperial/Double IPA starts off with smooth maltiness followed by intense hops and some extreme bitterness complimented with piney, citrus, and grassy elements.

12th OF NEVER – earning a 95 score on RateBeer, this is a blend of Old and New School hops that play bright citrus, rich coconut, and papaya-esque flavors, all on a solid stage of English puffed wheat. Tropically hoppy. Light, yet full-bodied. Bright and citrusy.

bombora-and-cooranbongDOPPEL WEIZEN – earning a 94 score on RateBeer, this seasonal beer is their Bavarian-style Weizenbock made with Bavarian yeast and featuring a big wheat flavor complemented by notes of pale malt, light citrus fruitiness with clove, spices, bananas, vanilla and some lemon and grass, and a 9% ABV. 

For the vodkas, we’re bringing back —

COORANBONG and BOMBORA VODKAS – Cooranbong is a vodka made out of grapes from the Barossa Valley in Australia, distilled 10 times to make it a  “smooth,” bite-free vodkas with  an almost spring water-like finish in the mouth. Bombora is distilled 7 times from premium Australian grapes, and utilizes Australian water to create one of the smoothest, cleanest and freshest  gluten-free vodkas in its price-point on the market today.

And for the wines, our wonderful rep from Major Brands will be bringing these for you to sample:

LA CREMA PINOT NOIR – earning a 91 point score from Wine Enthusiast, this pinot is soft and smooth in texture and intensity and offers brambly red fruit and deep strawberry flavors combined with black licorice and classic earthy notes that finish with beautifully textured tannins that create a broad, supple mouthfeel.

smith & hook cabLA CREMA CHARDONNAY – earning a 90 point score from, this wine offers flavors of baked, locally grown, Gravenstein apple framed by hints of sweet spice and white peach that finishes with sweet oak tannins and a brisk minerality.

SMITH & HOOK CABERNET SAUVIGNON -earning a 9o point score from Wine Enthusiast, this big red is soft and dynamic, with ripe black currants supported by flavors of boysenberry and cassis and given complexity though licorice and butter-softened roasting herbs, all wrapped in tannins that keep the flavors steady throughout.

AVA GRACE SAUVIGNON BLANC – earning an 87 point score from Wine Spectator, this bright wine boasts notes of honeydew melon, lime zest and green apple flavors complemented by a rich mouthfeel and a bright, balanced acidity,

Lifted Spirits glassJoin us this Saturday afternoon as we host our new local distillery LIFTED SPIRITS. To let you sample everything from their family of spirits, we’ll be trying all four:

LIFTED SPIRITS GIN – getting its flavor from the botanicals’ vapors rather than by soaking in them, the  10 different botanicals including chamomile, cardamom, hibiscus, elderberries, and orange peel, juniper, orris root, vanilla, licorice root and coriander are lighter, more crisp, more aromatic, without the intense pine tree taste that overwhelms the other flavors in many gins.

LIFTED SPIRITS VODKA – made from red winter wheat grown by farmers less than an hour from Kansas City, this vodka is incredibly smooth.

WICKET & PEG BOURBON – smooth, vanilla forward and slightly citrus tasting. It’s totally sippable, or great for cocktails.  Handcrafted by Coulter & Payne in Union, Missouri, their traditional farm distillery approach utilizes locally sourced water and non-GMO corn grown without herbicides.

MEAN MULE SILVER – handcrafted from 100% blue agave from Jalisco, Mexico but distilled here in Kansas City, this American Agave spirit combines rare yeast with the agave for a smooth flavor that equals many of the fine tequilas.
