Join us this Friday as we kick off December with a tasting that you won’t want to miss. We’ll start off with Brews and Cheese with Urban Chestnut Brewing Co. as they feature their Winter Mixed Pack with cheese pairings chosen by their executive chef to enhance the flavors of each of these beers:
CHOUTEAU JOE (Coffee Stout) – a blend of two Saint Louis beverages: coffee from Kaldi’s and beer from UCBC, a ‘namesake brew’ of a cold-steeped, savory coffee and a rich, creamy Stout ale.
MAPLEATOR (Maple Bock) – While its name pays Reverence to the “ator” tradition of this historic, German style, they decided to Revolution-ize their take on it with the addition of maple syrup, adding even more complexity to the deep, rich, and toasty maltiness of this classic Bock Lager style.
KINSALE (Foreign Extra Stout) – this Foreign Export-style Stout has become an Irish-perfected, Caribbean-loved style of beer. Historically generously hopped and full of roasted malt flavors; their version leans toward the creamy, sweet side of things.
WINTERROGGEN (Roggenbier/Rye Ale) – This old school style features the banana and clove character and toasted bread notes found in classic Bavarian wheat beers, but as it also calls for the substitution of rye for wheat, the Roggenbier adopts extra spiciness & body.
For the liquor, we’ll be featuring two fine single-male Scotches from the famed THE MACALLAN DISTILLERY:
THE MACALLAN 12YR – A Sherry wood matured 12 year old from Macallan, a superbly balanced affair, one of the best of its age group. There are notes of hot pastries and marmalade, sultanas and peels with a developing sweetness from the barley sugar with a solid oaked note.
THE MACALLAN DOUBLE CASK – Aged in a combination of American oak and ex-sherry casks. This is a rich whisky which combines fruity citrus and caramel with spicy ginger and nutmeg.
And for the wines, our wonderful rep from Vintegrity is bringing these fines wines for you to try:
CRANE ASSEMBLY “DISCIPLES” – this incredibly delicious red is a blend of 93% Old Vine Zinfandel and 7% Petite Sirah that offers rich and textured flavors of Mexican chocolate, brambly raspberry and a lengthy carmelized crème Anglaise finish.
DASHE DRY RIESLING – Fermented dry in the style of the white wines of Alsace, France, this fruity and smooth wine is spicy and luscious, with flavors of pear and dried apricots. One of the best wines ever for spicy cuisine.
WALNUT BLOCK SAUVIGNON BLANC – this New Zealand Marlborough is silky, crisp and fully dry, with strong tropical fruit flavours of passion fruit, citrus zing, gooseberry and a very subtle seasoning of oak. If you like Marlborough Sauv Blancs. you’ll love this one.
SCARPETTA BARBERA – A medium bodied red wine full of crushed berries and plum flavors, its low tannins but bright acidity give it a wonderful balance.
